AutoSocks offer more tyre traction than snow chains

Asmita PrasadMay 24 2008

It was about time someone came up with a better alternative to the archaic and hellishly tiring practice of snow chaining tyres to get through the snowy season. And help has come in the guise of a tyre sock made from fabric. Incredible as it is but this new invention called AutoSocks is taking the snow driving by storm, and the Norwegian innovation has even been approved by the motoring press and even the German safety authority (TÜV). Apparently AutoSocks can offer upto 135% more grip on a snowed out road even with summer tyres and since the thing weighs less than 1kg (2.2lbs) folded up, it takes lees boot space than a folded raincoat and mounts on the tyre in less than a minute without scratching your alloy wheels! Of course the sock is not meant for use in wet or dry conditions and even when you’re using it the snow it is recommended that you don’t try and go above 30 mph.
