We have all been mesmerized by images of the beautiful Auroras or the polar lights that are shaped by the earth’s magnetism. In a new series of experiments, scientists from NASA have successfully made local magnetic fields visible as “animated photographs” that resemble the natural phenomena to the tee. Researchers from NASA’s Space Sciences Laboratory used sound-controlled CGI and 3D compositing to make the fields dance and the image is captured in a recording called Magnetic Movie. Though we certainly won’t have the technology used for civilian entertainment anytime soon, pictures of the project have been released for public viewing and you too can watch the dancing magnetic fields after the jump.
