Designer Watches
With increasing affluence, product designers have all the freedom to try their wild fantasies, even on mundane products such as watches and clocks. Sometimes, this freedom results in kitsch and what you get is something that isn't refreshing but something that is either bizarre or ordinary. Take for example the Harry Winston Opus 8. It looks disturbingly similar to a mundane digital watch or was he 'inspired' by some other designer? When designer Alvin Aronson, a student of Rhode Island School of Design, designed Clock D/A (digital/analog) he used the similar principles and style as the Opus 8. However, Opus 8 has been ‘refined’ to the tastes of a kitschy market by offering mechanical 3D display. Wealth and opportunities can sometimes result in creative boredom.
