Face Recognition Software
Fuijitaka Child Check System technology was released last may in order to keep a check on children and minors buying cigarettes from vending machines. The system uses RFID technology to distinguish between human and adult faces. However, the system was flawed and when an investigative reporter flashed his Yen bill, the adult's image on the currency note was analyzed as that of an adult's by the system. Further, the same note could be used to purchase the cigarettes. This inability of the software to judge between real and virtual faces has drawn criticism by many. Children can just flash an adult's picture in front of the cigarette vending machine and buy the cigarettes. Fuijitaka are reportedly trying to improve the software so that it can distinguish between virtual and real faces.
