Now every time your child becomes inquisitive about the stars, teach him his basic astronomy with the Segatoys’ Homestar PURE Home Planetarium. This little wonder projects images of the night sky onto your ceiling no matter whether its day or night. It comes equipped with two northern hemisphere star discs (one with constellations marked, one without), a slide of Japanese paperwork for easy operation and the unit itself. Crafted as an oversized egg, it stands 160mm tall with a diameter of 110mm. On lifting the lid, a slightly smaller egg shaped dome reveals the Homestar logo along with the unit’s control and setup mechanisms. A 35mm projection hole on top of the Homestar PURE beams the stars on to the ceiling, while a 20mm ring around the opening’s edge focuses the star image (though a little haphazard as the ring does not match the rest of the unit’s fairly). Small and simple to operate, Homestar PURE has a small ON/OFF switch accompanied by a small green LED and a small dial, which allows effortless rotation of the projection and also pulls out the star disc tray (60mm in diameter; 4mm thick) at the same time.

The entire egg structure can be tilted about 25 degrees from vertical in both directions for distant projecting. It runs on 4xAA batteries (Batteries are not included) as powering the Homestar PURE via a power outlet is not possible. Though the Homestar PURE’s light creates an excellent image at the recommended distance of 2-2.30 metres in a completely darkened room, it becomes lose, less proportionate and blurred at the edges, but at the same time Brando’s claim that the Homestar PURE can project 10,000 stars is also not entirely impractical. The dial on the side rotates the star image clockwise or counter clockwise and once turned on, the Homestar PURE automatically turns itself off after thirty minutes. Available at Brando, it costs $122US (complete with two Northern Hemisphere star discs) and for those wishing to go beyond and see the Southern sky, it costs $68US (Southern hemisphere discs).

This is a cool idea I already have a similar kind of ceiling stickers in my room, which gives an impression of milky way at night :)
Cool man!! What I’m really loving about this thing is that it can be titled to suit the angle best for your neck muscles... those trips to the big planetarium are fun and all, but they really cramp my neck out big time!!
