Silicon Valley giants Luxim have developed a tiny plasma light bulb that emits as much glow as a regular street light. Aptly named LiFi, the tic-tac sized 250W radiates as much light as 400W LEDs. The bulb contains gas and metal halide materials. An electric feels ionizes the gas molecules, the gas plasma begins vaporizing the metal halides. The metal halides completely join the gas plasma emitting a powerful white light. The energy efficient and environmental clean technology offers the full color spectrum apart from a long, stable bulb life. Though its practical implication beyond use in HDTV and entertainment setups is as yet unknown, we’re sure the clever researchers will soon have the LiFi ready for use in our daily lives.
