Night watch lamps - You're being watched!

Asmita PrasadJun 25 2008

Created by London-based design studio Wokmedia, the Night Watch light installations draw upon the power of intrigue and merge it with some truly Gothic imagination to present us with the most ghastly lights mankind has seen in a long time. The brainchild of designers Julie Mathias and Wolfgang Kaeppner, the installations use ‘inside painting’ which is a traditional form of Chinese art where the image is painted in reverse through a small hole in a vessel, and the Night Watch crystal balls were deliberately painted and illuminated to create the impression of menacing animal eyes. Presented in collaboration with Contrasts gallery, over 100 sets of animal eye lamps will be featured at the 100% Design Shanghai which runs from June 26-28 and just in case your children have been very naughty this year, it might worth it to bring them to the showing!
