Much like sci-fi weapons, the US Army wants to provide soldiers with alternatives. It wants guns that can be used to stun or kill as per the demands of the situation. Apparently the inspiration for such a weapon lies behind toy rockets manufactured by Lund and Company Invention. L.L.C. has therefore been commissioned to manufacture guns that work with variable velocity. These VWS or Variable Velocity Weapons will work on principles that drive the hydrogen powered rocket of L.L.C. The VWS will allow a soldier to change the velocity of the fired bullet by tinkering with the muzzle velocity. The gun would also be capable of firing either rubber or normal bullets. Company’s CEO Bruce Lund says that the gun would work by mixing liquid or a gaseous fuel with air and combusting it in a chamber behind the bullet. This combustion would determine the speed with which the bullet leaves the gun. Bruce also says that proposed gun would be lighter than the conventional ones and would also be capable of long-range sniping. L.L.C. will make ready a prototype within six months and the weapon, depending on approval, would go into production within 18 months. Putting discretion into soldier’s hands would certainly augur well for better application in conflicts.
